Quick Homemade Pasta Sauce with Sausage
|
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large onion (yellow) chopped
- 1/2 pound mild Italian Sausage crumbled
- 10 medium cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 26.46 ounce cartons Pacific Foods Organic Crushed Tomatoes
- 1 1/2 tsp. Kosher salt
- 20 turns freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 2 small dried bay leaves
- fresh basil to serve
Instructions
- Heat a dutch oven or other large soup pot over medium heat. Once hot, add olive oil. When oil is warm (30 to 45 seconds), add diced onion and crushed garlic.
- Saute 6 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until onion begins to look translucent. Add crumbled sausage and use a spatula to continue breaking apart as it cooks, 3 to 4 minutes, or until most of pink is gone.
- Add spices (salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, crushed fennel seeds, Italian seasoning and bay leaves). Stir to toast, about 30 seconds.
- Add Pacific Foods Organic Crushed Tomatoes. Bring to a gentle boil and immediately lower heat to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for at least 20 minutes (longer is OK). Taste, adjust seasoning if necessary and serve topped with fresh basil. Enjoy!
