Keeping Our Crew Safe During COVID-19: Some of the real heroes in this critical time are the ones keeping us all fed. At Pacific, that includes 500+ people working around the clock to bring you nourishing soups, broths and plant-based beverages. We’re grateful for the best crew, working hard to keep grocery shelves full.
While the COVID-19 situation is continually evolving, safety remains ever top of mind as our retailers, consumers and communities depend on us for something critically important: nourishing foods.
Protecting Our Team
Our first priority is the well-being and safety of our teams and their families. We have a task force that meets daily to assess the situation and take action to protect our employees, while meeting the need of the consumers who are counting on us to help them put food on their tables. Here are the steps we have taken:
Restricted non-essential domestic business travel and participation in large external events, such as trade shows and other group meetings. Additionally, we prohibited business travel internationally, and placed 14-day quarantines on anyone who had traveled on a cruise or internationally for personal reasons.
For our front-line teams, we have put strong measures in place to maintain the health environment of our plants and distribution centers, including:
Protocols to identify potential exposure following the CDC’s guidelines on quarantines.
Enhanced cleaning procedures in place – with cleanings happening multiple times per day.
Mandatory health screenings and temperature checks before each shift.
Following best practices around social distancing.
No visitors allowed on-site; suspended plant tours and closed onsite stores to the public.
We know our crews are doing mission-critical work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and we recently announced expanded support for these teams.
We are requiring all office-based employees and contractors who can work remotely to do so until further notice at all of our office locations. Our goal is to reduce the number of people in office environments to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.
During this critical time, we are focused on supporting our employees and their families. We have implemented new policies to help employees who may be out of work due to caregiving or health-related issues. This includes the suspension of our attendance policy for hourly employees and mitigation plans to bridge income if necessary.
Ensuring Our Products Are Safe
As always, we are committed to ensuring that our products are safe, nourishing and meet all food safety and regulatory requirements. We’re confident our food is as safe as it has always been.
There is no indication that COVID-19 is a food safety concern or that consumers are at risk of contracting COVID-19 from any food product. The CDC and the USDA state that there is no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 as a foodborne pathogen and the FDA is not aware of any reports of transmission through food or food packaging. We will continue to comply with all requirements and guidelines regarding sourcing and trade of material set by the relevant authorities.
