Deer Creek. A wetlands rehabilitation.

Back in 2000, we bought a dairy in western Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Over the course of three years, we converted it to a 100% organic certified operation. We also discovered degraded wetlands that had been buried for more than 50 years in over 2,500 feet of terra cotta drainage tiles over an area of 5 1/2 acres.

We immediately set about a multi-year restoration effort. When all is said and done we will have moved 20,000 cubic yards of earth, forming a shallow channel that will restore the natural hydrology of the creek. We've also planted over 5,000 native trees and shrubs. We completed the initial phase in fall 2007, and there is already an influx of birdlife. We couldn’t be happier.
