Soup Drives Out Hunger

This month, we’re making a Hearty Vegetable Soup with herbs and green peppers. In December, we made a Spicy Corn Soup featuring jalapeno peppers and cayenne spices. But, you won’t be able to find either of them on a store shelf soon. These soups were made exclusively for the Oregon Food Bank (OFB).

Our recipe development teams are working directly with the OFB to make soups that use up excess produce donations from local farms and other companies. We’ve set a monthly goal to set aside time and resources to produce food for the OFB. Our work curbing hunger with the OFB dates back more than 20 years. Together, we turn large amounts of fresh or frozen ingredients donated to the OFB into more food that’s easier to use and store for families in need. Because as a food company, giving food to those in need just makes sense.

Our always busy recipe development teams are more than happy to pitch in a helping hand for the cause. Together, we create new soup recipes and pack them into cartons. It stretches raw ingredients a little further, feeding more people over a longer period of time. We are so honored to join the OFB in this unique path to ending hunger in Oregon.

This month, our partners from Oregon Spice Company donated green bell peppers, herbs and spices for this month’s Hearty Vegetable Soup. We’ll be producing more than 33,000 cartons of it exclusively for the OFB. Next on our list is another hearty carton soup, which will use some of the abundant amount of corn, green beans and mixed vegetables that OFB receives.

We’re trying to do our part, but there’s plenty that you can do to help us out! Every January, food banks across the country struggle to keep up donation levels from the holidays because people go hungry every day, all year long. Organize a group to get together and volunteer at your local Food Bank. We did this with a big group in the summer, and we had a blast while doing a good deed!  Or, organize a food drive in your local town to raise awareness about hunger in your local area.  Together we can ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
