We’re always working to reduce our carbon footprint through packaging, waste reduction, energy efficiency and much more. And now, we’re taking our first step into on-site renewable energy.
A crew from the local agency Advanced Energy Systems is helping us integrate solar power into our Pacific Foods campus. (Yes, solar power is possible in Oregon!)
Rory, our own green space pioneer, is heading up the project. He explains, “This is our foot in the door; hopefully, year over year, we’ll grow this portfolio of on-site renewable energy.” We’re excited that we’re not only using solar energy but actually generating carbon-free, greenhouse gas-free electricity.
The 308 solar panels will generate about 77,000 kilowatt hours of energy. These panels will be locked in place for years to come producing clean, carbon free electricity. During its lifetime, our new solar power system will offset about 1,140 tons of CO2, the equivalent of saving about 26,360 trees or 115,640 gallons of gasoline. And, we’ll save on our electricity costs. Talk about win-win!
With the short, wintry days of December we’ll have to wait for most of our solar power to accumulate during the summer months. We are so excited!
