As a food company, we’ve always believed in doing our part to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Last week, 25 members of our sales and marketing crew volunteered at the Oregon Food Bank. We’ve volunteered there a few times, and we’ve had a blast every time! That day, in just a few hours, we repackaged 3,516 lbs of food (about 117 meals per volunteer).
The Oregon Food Bank has some impressive facilities, and we got to tour the whole place. Did you know the Oregon Food Bank’s network includes 20 food banks across the state? They also operate two learning gardens that harvest up to 18,000 lbs of food a year from less than 1 acre of land. Wow!
Oregon Food Bank gladly accepts garden-fresh, homegrown vegetables, and they’re always looking for experts in cooking, canning and food preservation to teach classes and volunteer groups. Our tour guide said educating people about canning, preserving and gardening is one way to eliminate hunger. We couldn’t agree more!
